To participate in Arizona elections, you have to register to vote with the Arizona County Recorder. You can also register to vote through the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) in person and online.

Voter Eligibility in Arizona

To qualify for voter registration in Arizona, you must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Be a resident of the Arizona county listed on your registration.
  • Be at least 18 years old on or before the date of the next general election.
  • NOT disqualified from voting at this time due to felony conviction(s).*.
  • NOT be declared 'incompetent' by a court.
*Your voting rights may be restored automatically or you may need to apply to have them restored.

Check Your Voter Registration Status

To check that you're registered to vote in the correct county, and that your details are up to date, visit the AZ Secretary of State website and search for your voter information.

Register to Vote in Arizona

You must register to vote at least 29 days before the next election to be able to vote in it.

In Arizona, you can register to vote online, bymail, and inperson at your local County Recorder. You can also register to vote in person at an Arizona MVD office while applying for a driver's license.

NOTE: You will need to show proof of your identity when you visit a polling place on the day of the election.

NOTE: In order to use this online system, the AZ MVD must have your digital signature on file.

To register to vote online, visit the ADOT Service Arizona website. The website will show the voter registration deadline for the next election.

You will need to provide your:

  • Name (as it appears on your driver's license or ID card).
  • Address.
  • Social Security number (SSN).

Once you complete the process, your voter registration information will be forwarded to your local County Recorder.

Expect to receive your voter registration card within 6 weeks.

By Mail or In Person

To register to vote in Arizona bymail or in person, you will need:

  • A completed Arizona Voter Registration Form .
    • You can pick up a form at your local County Recorder.
  • Proof of your U.S. citizenship, such as a photocopy of your:
    • Birth certificate.
    • U.S. passport.

Mail or take the above documents to your local County Recorder.

Your proof of registration will be mailed to you within 6 weeks.

You can also register to vote at your local AZ MVD office when you apply for an Arizona driver's license or identification card.

Permanent Early Voter

If you have a permanent physical disability and can't make it to the polls, you can register to vote as a permanent early voter. You can use either the online or mail-in voter registration processes explained above.

Once you're registered as a permanent early voter, you will receive a mail-in ballot for each year you're eligible to vote from home.

Military & Overseas Voter Registration

If you're an active duty military member stationed out of state or AZ resident residing overseas, you can register to vote through the Federal Voting Assistance Program.

You will need to complete the Voter Registration and Absentee Ballot Request Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) and return it to your local election office.

You will automatically be registered as an absentee voter for the period you are outside of Arizona.

You can also register to vote online at the AZ Secretary of State website.

NOTE: If you are a dependent or spouse of an out-of-state military member, you can also register to vote through the Federal Voting Assistance Program.

Change Your Name, AZ Address, or Party

If you need to update your address, name, or party affiliation on your Arizona voter registration, you will need to re-register to vote. See “ Register to Vote in Arizona' above.
